Partners
A partner is any other organization that appears in your register: the data processors you engage (the payroll provider, the cloud host, the marketing agency), the joint controllers you share a purpose with, and the controllers you process data for. Each partner is entered once, with its address and contact persons, and then picked from a list wherever it plays a role — so the payroll provider is described in one place, however many activities it handles.
Your own organization is a partner too — the first entry in the list, and the default controller of every new activity. See Organizations.
Partners are managed in Edit mode under Organization settings → Configure partners, by administrators.
The roles a partner can play
In each activity, every partner holds one of three positions:
- Controller — it determines the purposes and means of the processing. When several organizations are controllers of the same activity, they are joint controllers.
- Processor — it processes the data on behalf of the controllers.
- Not involved — it plays no role in this activity.
Every activity has at least one controller, and your own organization is always either a controller or a processor in it. The role your organization holds is what the dashboard's controller / processor / joint controller filters look at, and it is what the Art. 30 declaration reports.
A partner stays in the register for as long as it holds a role somewhere: it can only be removed once it is not a controller, processor or joint controller of any activity.
What a partner holds
A partner record has the same shape as your own organization:

| Notes | Free text — prospective projects, an agreement under negotiation, why the partner was chosen; never printed on documents |
| Contracts and activities | The contracts it is party to, and the activities in which it is a controller or processor — both maintained from the activity and contract side |
